In this episode of THE BALDCAST, I sit down with Robert to share a deeply personal patient story centered on chronic folliculitis of the nape and tufted folliculitis. Robert lived for years with painful scalp inflammation, scarring, and hair loss concentrated at the back of his scalp. These conditions affected not only his appearance, but also his ability to work and live comfortably. Like many patients I treat who struggle with bumps that won’t heal, Robert faced frustration, uncertainty, and the emotional toll that often comes with chronic scalp conditions. What makes this story especially meaningful to me is how it began. Robert’s mother refused to accept that there were no answers. She searched relentlessly, shared information with her children, and helped open the path toward care. His sister continued that search, eventually discovering my early educational videos online. Though the footage was from the early days of YouTube and not polished, it delivered something far more important, hope. As a truck driver, Robert had to take time away from the road to pursue treatment. His sister stepped in to help with transportation, post procedure care, and recovery support. I witnessed firsthand how her presence played a vital role throughout the process. This episode goes beyond medical discussion. It reflects on the importance of family, perseverance, and support in the healing journey. Stories like Robert’s continue to shape my purpose as a physician, educator, and advocate for patients living with chronic scalp conditions. If you or someone you love is dealing with chronic folliculitis of the nape or tufted folliculitis, I encourage you to watch this conversation and know that you are not alone.
