Patient With Early Stage Acne Keloidalis Nuchae

This patient had an early stage form of Acne Keloidalis Nuchae.  When the condition first appears, it looks like acne bumps. However it is also accompanied by profound hair loss as well.

Acne Keloidalis Nuchae needs to be addressed as soon as possible to avoid the growth of large tumors.  Although this patient had the option of choosing a medical treatment with drugs, he decided on surgery instead.

The drugs that would have been used may have helped to flatten and reduce the size of the bumps. However they would not be able to clear them completely.

Surgical excision of the Acne Keloidalis Nuchae area  restored a normal cosmetic appearance in the back of the head. It did leave a horizontal scar. But this was deliberately aligned with the posterior hairline.

After his procedure, the patient felt it was time to cut his hair short. There was no longer a need to hide the bumps.
